Leila Elgersma – Mural Artist, Face Painter, Children's Artist
I am a children’s artist and illustrator. I have been illustrating for children's magazines and books for 15 years. I love art in all forms, especially art that has to do with kids. I enjoy teaching art to children and doing all kinds of creative crafts with them. As a face painter I love seeing the wonder on kids' faces as they see their transformation in the mirror.
I have been drawing for as long as I can remember. My family is very artistic and my sisters and I enjoyed painting murals together when we were teenagers. We volunteered at schools and orphanages turning often drab, gray walls into colorful works of art; this gave us not only good art practice but also a chance to brighten up the lives of many children. That's what mural painting is to me — a chance to bring color and beauty to a child's world.
I am a mother of four wonderful children who keep me on my toes and my life full of joy. We live in Wylie, Texas.
